Great Lessons on Oil, Earnings and Banking

Here’s what we learned today on The Opening Bell: 1.    CEOs think oil prices are headed higher next year. Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly made that clear to me. 45% of Southwest’s fuel portfolio is hedged this year and 65% for next year. He said the average oil price ranges from low 70s to mid 80s. Oil just closed at a new high today and is up 60% on the year. 2.    Joshua Rosner ... read more

Gettelfinger on Details of the UAW's Contract With Ford

This morning I spoke to Ron Gettelfinger the UAW president about the UAW deal with Ford. I’ve interviewed Ron on multiple occasions where we’ve specifically talked about the pending UAW deal with Ford. When I read the details this morning, I wasn’t surprised to see Ford drive a hard bargain to get the same kind of concessions that GM and Chrysler did in order to remain competitive but, I was ... read more

Sen. Crapo: Public Option Won't Pass In the Senate

This morning on The Opening Bell, I interviewed Republican Senator Mike Crapo. Senator Crapo is one of the 9 Republican members of the Senate Finance Committee which voted against the health-care bill yesterday. This morning, he told me why he objects to the bill and where he thinks the combined Senate Finance and Senate Health Bill is headed. Senator Crapo said: “The merger of the two bills ... read more

EXCLUSIVE: McDonald's CEO on Sales, Consumer Confidence, Unemployment and Coffee

I cannot believe I did not post this blog and interview. Forgive me! On Friday I spent the morning with Jim Skinner, McDonald's CEO. It was an exclusive interview with a CEO who rarely does live interviews. Given his track record, you can see why he chooses a lower profile. Jim Skinner joined McDonald's as a trainee in 1971 in Carpentersville, Ill. He became CEO in 2004. Since he took over ... read more

Exclusive: My Day With Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent

A little over a week ago ,I had the privilege of spending the day with Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola (KO). Tax Credit Lessons From the 70s Recession

This morning in a "First on FOX Business", I was joined on The Opening Bell by Daniel Hamermesh, professor of economics at the University of Texas. Hamermesh was one of the original architects of the New Jobs Tax Credit in 1977. The tax credit was created to stimulate jobs in the late 70s in response to the 1973-1975 recession. Depending on whom you speak to, some say the tax credits in the late ... read more

T. Boone Pickens: Natural Gas to Hit $7 Next Year

Yesterday I caught up with my friend T. Boone Pickens. I always enjoy seeing him. He's 81 years old and has more energy than I do. Hard to believe, but it's true :)!! He always tells me wonderful stories about his kids or his fourth  wife. He's larger than life and as down to earth as anybody you'll ever meet. He told me a wonderful story about a meeting with the president of the United States ... read more

Starbucks CEO Schultz Optimistic on Growth

Earlier today, I caught up with Starbucks (SBUX) Chairman & CEO Howard Schultz. Starbucks' stock is up over 120% year to date. Schultz just exercised options worth almost $20 million, taking a $15 million dollar paper profit, but he had an option to sell those shares once the stock options were exercised. He decided to hold them. He is in it for the long-haul and very bullish about the company's ... read more
