AmEx CEO: 'The Central Issue Is Uncertainty'

I've been down in D.C. at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council speaking with some of the biggest names in the corporate world. It's been extremely exciting and I can't wait to share with you what we discussed. (Expect lots of blog posts to follow!) American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault was kind enough to share his thoughts on everything from economic recovery to credit-card practices. What he ... read more

Former AMA President: Health-Care Reform Could Be a Disaster

This morning, former American Medical Association President Dr. Donald Palmisano joined me in a First on Fox interview. He is not happy about what some call the endorsement of the House bill by the AMA. He spent eight hours last Sunday in Houston debating the bill with his colleagues and he is greatly discouraged by the AMA's decision to support the bill and ignore issues like malpractice ... read more

'We Have a Bunch of Drunken Sailors Running the Fed'

This morning ,my good friend Peter Boockvar of Miller Tabak joined me on The Opening Bell. As I've said before in these blogs, we've known each other for years. He is one of the best and brightest on Wall Street. Trust me! He sends daily emails to me and others. Those emails with market, economic and Fed commentary can be found here. Check it out! Not All Fun and Games

This morning Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello joined me on The Opening Bell. Electronic Arts reported earnings last night. The company missed the Street's earnings estimates by a penny, but beat on revenue. Electronic Arts has been hard at work on a restructuring effort to turn itself around. The consumer hit by the recession has retrenched and even an industry that some thought was ... read more

Will the Health-Care Bill Become Law?

This morning, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) joined me for a discussion on health care. They each have very different point of views. Merkley noted that a Senate health-care bill will be in conference committee and then on the President's desk by the end of the year. Senator Wicker said he was "doubtful" and that no bill would pass by year end. Senator Merkley ... read more

A Bullish View of the Markets

This morning, I was joined by Scott Wren, senior equity strategist at Wells Fargo Advisors. He said investors need to understand that we're in the "4th inning of a 9 inning ball game" -- that there are still plenty of opportunities to invest and that we could reach the October 2007 highs in a couple of years. Remarkably bullish! He did note that they have changed their portfolios to an ... read more

Grim Employment Report, But Signs of Hope

This morning’s job data was very bleak. The unemployment rate is now at 10.2%, the highest level since April of 1983. Not only are we now in double digits sooner than many people expected, but the workforce shrunk month-over-month. The increased unemployment rate reflects the fact that more people are looking for work. The problem is that we have created very little new substantial jobs. Just to ... read more

If you’re concerned about retirement and whether you’ll have enough money to retire, take a look at this survey conducted by Wells Fargo. This morning Lynne Ford, executive vice president and head of retail retirement at Wells Fargo, joined me with the results of the company's 5th annual retirement survey. The results are very telling. You may not be surprised to find that only 23% of ... read more

Shiller on Housing: 'I am Terribly Conflicted'

This morning Robert Shiller, Yale professor and co-creator of the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index, joined me. It was a fascinating interview. I’ve never seen the professor this way. He was incredibly uncertain about the future. Incredibly conflicted about where we are headed. What made today’s interview with Professor Shiller so intriguing is that he’s one of the leading economists who ... read more

Gettelfinger Discusses UAW's Rejection of Ford Contract

This morning in a First on Fox Business I spoke to Ron Gettelfinger ,the UAW (United Auto Workers) president, about the UAW's vote against a deal with Ford. As you may recall on October 14th in a blog entitled, "Gettelfinger on Details of the UAW's Contract with Ford," I called the deal "lousy" for Ford UAW workers. Gettelfinger understandingly took some offense to that notion, saying, "I don't ... read more
