What a Jobless Recovery Means for the U.S.

Is a jobless recovery possible? What does that mean? How bad is the underemployment situation in this country? Will we need a second stimulus package directed at job growth?

All excellent questions and this morning in a very good discussion on all of these issues Mort Zuckerman, U.S. News & World Report Chairman & Editor-in-Chief joined me along with Brian Wesbury, First Trust Advisors Chief Economist and Tom Cotter, a comedian, whose taken his show on the road to packed crowds.

Each had very strong points of view about where the economy is today and where it is headed. The key to all of this recovery is jobs and how we recreate the over 7 million lost since the recession started in December of 2007.

This is a column that Mort Zuckerman wrote about unemployment. (Embed link). I recommend you read to understand how bad the unemployment situation is.

They (note not me since I sat back and let them make points and counterpoints) had an excellent conversation. Mort never disappoints and Brian was excellent. Tom provided some much needed levity :)

A jobless recovery is no recovery. First off there are now over 47 million Americans collecting ssi, ssdi. These people fall under the category of welfare has run out, and those who have never held a job. There are a small percentage of those on ssdi who actually are disabled, but that number is relatively small compared to the overall who collect this entitlement. Second, those who are unemployed and want to work are finding it more difficult than ever to find a job. Without these people in the work force there are not enough tax paying citizens in this country to support the massive debt our leaders are piling upon us. Every day the baby boomer generation as a percentage of the work force shrinks, and these are our top earners and majority of our tax payers. Now they are eligible to collect the long awaited Social Security they have earned, further draining a bankrupt system. These are just a few reasons why there will be no true recovery.

Alexis, I am sorry but Bryan has it WRONG and Mort is Righ on! A jobless recovery would be disasterous for the US. Companies will continue to cut jobs to make their bottom lines look better because most mangers do not know how to manage, nor do they know the true condition of their company's finances. Almost all today have NO Christian Values! They consider people to be a commodity, not an investment and a living soul who contributes hard work, long hours for low pay to support a family! After all we have killed 50 million babies, who would have been consumers, and problem solvers sent by God to help with the problems we face today. These people would have paid taxes, had children which would have created more consumer demands. The earth at its current level of technology can support a population of over 20 billion people. Some societies in Europe are not even replacing those who have died. Man is really stupid, when he goes against God. Those who want to solve problems should pray more and be attentive to God's Laws. Humility is very important in the work place and a man or woman should know their limitations!!! It takes a TEAM effort to be GREAT. A leader is nothing more then the guy or gal that calls the plays and sometimes you must block for others!
