Long-Term Effects of Political Unrest

Been watching all of the protests in Iran? Heard about the coup in Honduras? Been hearing about attacks in Nigeria? The removal of US troops in Iraq & the auctioning off of oil & gas fields? All of these stories address a growing number of politically instable governments. Is economic instability leading to political instability? This is something I discussed after the trip to Davos & the World ... read more

What Grade Would You Give Obama?

In this morning's roundtable discussion, we rated President Obama's performance on the economy. I guess you could call it a report card. Our three guests graded him on everything from the stimulus to job creation, consumer confidence and his ability to turn the economy around. The guests had very different points of views. Surprise! Surprise! Here was my take -- or "Glick's Take": 1. So far ... read more

One Company That is Looking MMMM...MMM...Good

This morning I sat down with Douglas R. Conant, Campbell Soup's president and CEO, and we discussed how the company is weathering the economic turmoil. He had a lot to say about steps he is taking to make sure his company maintains a healthy balance sheet and what consumers can expect from the soup giant in the near future.  The Camden, N.J.-based company is seeing growth in many of its ... read more

Madoff Should Not Get Off Lightly

This morning, most of my show was dedicated to the Bernie Madoff case, as he is set to be sentenced this morning. The scheme involves billions of dollars lost from firefighters, correction officers, 9/11 widows; not just the wealthy country club investor. No matter who participated, it's a horrific story. The key culprit in all of this the SEC, which failed to do anything about it after SEVEN ... read more

Exploring Michael Jackson's Legacy

In the wake of the shocking news about Michael Jackson's death, we dedicated several segments of our show this morning to his legacy. I interviewed several instrumental business associates, one of whom happens to be a very good friend of my dad's. As you may recall, my dad is an attorney in the music business. Last night when I heard the news I called him right away. I remember my dad worked on ... read more

Rare Sign of Hope in the Auto Market

One story in the auto crisis that has not garnered as much attention is the auto rental market. This morning, Hertz CEO & Chairman Mark Frissora joined me immediately following a press release from the company announcing guidance for Q2 and the full year. Hertz had suspended guidance because of the weakness in business due to the collapse of the economy. Today, the company came back to the Street ... read more

IMAX CEO: We will be Profitable By End of Year

Last night I went to see the premiere of Transformers at the IMAX theater in NYC. I did not see the first version in the movies so I can't compare, but I did think it was really cool. The acting is OK, but the action and special effects are great. My kids loved it! I must admit there is nothing like seeing a movie on an IMAX theater especially a big blockbuster pick. As I tweeted last night, ... read more

Obama: Is He Becoming Overexposed?

This morning's roundtable discussion was on Obama's media presence. To date he has had 173 speeches, 2 dozen news conferences and more than 50 media interviews. Not one with Fox. Still trying to fix that as I have sent multiple requests to the White House. As you may recall, I interviewed the president when he was a nominee last summer. Joining me to discuss if he is overexposed or if the ... read more

Will Media Stocks Show Life in the 4Q ?

After what seemed like the bloodiest first quarter in years, media stocks are finally getting a pop with optimism that the fourth quarter will start to see signs of life. Some suspect the collapse of the auto industry and subsequently advertising rates has changed the media business for decades to come. A lot of talk about multi-platform models and who will rise from the wreckage. Christie ... read more
