I remember Katrina like yesterday. I like to share another story from three years ago.
Well by accident I met a CBS newsproducer by the way. She was from New York and one afternoon I was taking care of mail for my office and we struck a conversation. I asked her where I would fit in the news business becouse I studided Journalism twenty years ago when I went to Hinds Community College. I told her that I read alot and I do now. Books, magazines etc.
Her answer:"You would be a news producer." And to this day I've been think about it. Seriously. Just wanted to tell you a Katrina story while you're in the field. I'm not jiving you now..I think about News producer from time to time.

Yesterday we up here felt th outer fringes of now Tropical Depression Gustav. It was mostly wind and rain. Power went out briefly in the evening but that was all. No tornadoes to report.
The good news has been that Corps Levees held. Though much work remains they held. I watch your interview with the owner of Cafe du Monde. I was surprised that he stayed. But up here it's rain and most of Vicksburg the power has been out but homes have power. One thing that has cause furor. Entergy. I told LC in her blog about what Entergy is trying do. So I'll tell you.
The story broke in the local paper and the Clarion Ledger. I can't recall the specifics but Entergy doesn't tell the public or Public Service Commission over thier rates and this is related to rate increases they tried to level on the customers. Somehouw this is related to a subcontractor. I can tell Entergy has cause a lot hearache for the locals becouse of thier rate incresases. On the VicksburgSpeaks.com bulentin board this one of the topics. Becouse one fo the complaints has been that Vicksburg has the highest rate increases in the state. So why not bring this up with the CEO of Entergy? what right does a utiliy have to do this?

Best thing to do is hang in there.
As for the Republic convention the convetion has handled the hurricane quite postitvely in fact. It proved to be reactive.
I've been hearing some good news about New Orleans as well. No looting. No real damage. Gov Jindal is playing it smart by flying a drone over one of the levees and damaged areas to get a much better perspective of damage. The even better news is that the oil rigs survived and oil has dropped to 107.00 a barrel.
You doing okay? Be careful in entering areas of damage. One thing that has been positive from the storm up here: real cool weather.
We're not out of the woods yet. There is hurricane Hannah and tropical storm Ike. I was watching the Weather Channel this morning and they said this shaping out to be '05 all over again.
I learned from Squawk Box on CNBC that Walmart,Home Depot and sending Assesstment teams to check and see what damage has been done and what they can do to get thier communities back on track.
