Some Reasons for Optimism

I'm starting to think that the market is making me schizophrenic. Just over a month ago, I wrote a blog entitled "Scary Times". Now I'm feeling slightly more optimistic. As you’ll recall, the Fox 50 Index hit a record closing low on that same day of 867 and is now up 7.6% since July 15th. Good contra-indicator? It seems that way! The other day Tony Crescenzi from Miller Tabak joined me as our ... read more

Fueling the Food Crisis

This morning, Governor Jon Corzine of New Jersey joined me to discuss his frustration with the Environmental Protection Agency's refusal to lower the production of nine billion gallons of ethanol and bio-diesel this year. Corzine feels the EPA's food-to-fuel mandate is a dangerous one. He's not entirely opposed to the use of corn crops for some ethanol consumption, but he is opposed to the ... read more

Good News for Oil... for Now

The Georgia-Russia conflict could have serious implications for oil prices and the United States. This morning Chuck Nash, Fox News military analyst, and Phil Flynn, an oil expert and Fox Business contributor, joined me to discuss the ramifications for the oil markets, the European Union (as it is the main recipient of the pipeline), and the risks to the United States' support of ... read more

Coke and Pepsi: A Rivalry That Won't Go Flat

In this week's edition of America's Greatest Business Rivalries, we took a look at Pepsi and Coca Cola, a rivalry that dates back over a century. I didn't realize it until I did some homework, but Coke and Pepsi were created by pharmacists! Who knew a simple mix of syrup and carbonated water would create two of the biggest beverage conglomerates in the business? Take a look. ... read more

Weaning America Off Its Oil Addiction

Bob Barr, Libertarian presidential candidate and former Republican Congressman from Georgia joined me this morning to discuss why he believes Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain's energy plans fall short. The former Congressman is gaining ground in the polls and many believe that he will take away votes from Sen. McCain. Here what he has to say about that and what he proposes to cure the country's ... read more

The $300 Million Man

You never know what the night can bring! Slate, my 19 month old son, says it all. I was wrong…Brett Favre is a great guy and now he’s a JET. J, E, T, S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!!!! I can hear it already. The crowds are explosive, the sound resonating from Giants Stadium can be heard in New York City. Woody Johnson did the unthinkable. He put one of the best football players to play the game on ... read more

Making Money in Offshore Drilling

I have talked about offshore drilling a fair amount in the past couple of months but this morning I had a guest on who talked about the money making opportunities for the offshore drilling companies. Not the traditional oil companies or the exploration and production names like ExxonMobil but the Transocean's of the world. Honestly I had no idea how much it cost to build an offshore rig and the ... read more

An Open Letter to Senator Obama

Dear Senator Obama, Now is the time! There is no better time than the present to select Senator Evan Bayh as your vice presidential candidate. He's the man for the job. You and I both know it. You need to hit this one out of the park. A single, a double, a triple will not do. The polls are suggesting that you have lost some ground and, while we both know the margin of error on these polls can ... read more

Has Brett Favre Lost it?

Has Brett Favre lost his mind? I don't know about you but I didn't know that he had the ego the size of Wisconsin. I adored Brett Favre, but the way he has handled this entire process makes me crazy. I thought he was the most down to earth and humble guy. Maybe he is and this has been blown out of proportion? I don't know but I do believe there was a better way for him to decide he wanted to ... read more

Presidential Candidates and the Great Oil Debate

Today we talked to two of the economic/energy advisers for Senators Obama and McCain. What does McCain's camp make of Obama's change on offshore drilling and tapping the SPR (strategic petroleum reserve)? Was it based on the poll numbers, which stated that more Americans were in support of offshore drilling? Did Obama have no choice but to cave in given his recent decline in the polls? Is the ... read more
