Weaning America Off Its Oil Addiction
By Alexis Glick
Bob Barr, Libertarian presidential candidate and former Republican Congressman from Georgia joined me this morning to discuss why he believes Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain’s energy plans fall short. The former Congressman is gaining ground in the polls and many believe that he will take away votes from Sen. McCain. Here what he has to say about that and what he proposes to cure the country’s dependence on foreign oil.

Getting Americans off Oil is a real difficult task. Why? So many products are dependent on it. Plastics and sorts.
Personally I prefer to offshore drill and shale rock appoach while you use your investments and rescoources to research alternate energy sources. Use oil for the present and the alternatives for the future. Here you will find innovations in new technoligies. But left wing Democrats such as Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid ned to understand one can’t solve this problem overnight. Did you know in Canada they’re allready ahead of us in thinking green and using alternate energies? I wouldn’t be surprise if they’re laughing at Pelosi and Reid for their narrow stupidity and such. But Pelosi as a leader hasn’t presented an energy plan except for tapping the SOR. Which is should be done only in serious emergencies. But every plan of energy should be explored. In the marketplace of energy ideas there are lot of ideas out there to generate energy.
A friend explained to me that here in Warren County there is a small area of property where windmills could erected. Why? the wind blows constantly on this property. Now the only drawback is the fact that Warren County is located along a tornado alley which would be a severe drawback for such a project. All avenues of energy should be researched and examined. DC Policy makers, politicians of both stripes need to get out of the Beltway and see the real world beyond Washington,New York eastcoast axises. For the marketplace is much larger than one believes.
I came across an interesting article in the London Sunday Telegram about the fact that the Oil Bubble bursted. The writer doubts if oil would reach $200 a barrell. Yet if this market is unstable. Question is why is it unstable.

Congressman Barr makes some excellent points; however, there is one big one he doesn’t understand. If an alternative energy source was viable, then it would’nt need a government subsidy.

He could take some votes away Sen. McCain, I think most of politians drop the ball 20 years ago and now its all about getting votes. Talk is cheap and the dependence on foreign is a hot topic.

Bob Barr, a member of the house impeachment group in the 90’s, has like the rest of the Republican Party has lost their way. McCain/Feingold and bridges to nowhere are just two examples of a party that use to be for limited government and freedom of speech is now the party of limited speech and bigger deficits. When the public and the conservative movement realizes that Barr is for ending the war in Iraq and gutting the Patriot Act will leave him quicker than the road runner left Will E Coyote.
The only true leader this country has won’t be running for president. I know Newt has some moral issues (adultery), but in the overall scheme of things he is the only one with a real plan for energy independence, healthcare reform, and small things like English as the official language, saying “one nation under God” in the pledge of allegiance, and returning this country back to its roots as a Christian nation that is tolerant of other religions. Bob Barr has never talked about any of those.
I will give Mr. Barr some credit for his free market proposals to fix the housing and credit mess, but I am not going to loose St. Louis just so the crooks at the banks and mortgage companies get arrested for stealing their customer’s money. The part about loosing St. Louis is a metaphor for a terrorist attack that will kill a lot of people this size of a city like St. Louis (as Rush would say for you people in Rio Linda).
We have for two hundred years had a two party system that seems to work. The President of the United States should be elected with more than 50% (50.1%) of the vote; not 47 or 48 or even 44 (the amount President Clinton won in 1996) percent of the vote. Can we as republicans and conservatives please stop whining like liberals and vote for John McCain (a true war hero unlike Sen. Kerry) and spend the rest of our time giving him a real republican congress to work with.

Not only vote for McCain but get rid of some whimpy Republicans who cave in with Demorcats. And with Clintons about to pull a surprise Shakespearian act at the Denveer Convention, the Republicans should strike fear into the heart of the ultra left Democrats. Also go after Nancy Pelosi’s powerbase. She’s violated the will of the American People and she needds to feel the wrath. In mean the wrath in her face.

Someone help me understand, please…
From what I’m told, the US sits on about 3% of the world’s oil reserves.
The energy companies that tap these reserves will sell the oil for the market price.
Over time, the addition of an additional 3% to the supply, based on the principles of supply and demand, won’t make a difference in the market price.
So how is offshore drilling going to help anyone in the US besides the oil industry?
It’s a little depressing that when this country will need oil to fuel our tanks and troop carriers to ensure our freedom we will have blown it all driving 3,000 lb prosthetic devices to Walmart to spend more money on cheap plastic Chineese crap.

I’m tired of that platitude about our supposed “addiction” to oil (foreign or domestic). I don’t know about you all but I’m not addicted to oil. I may be addicted to the things that consume oil related products but I don’t care if they run on gasoline, electricity or fly farts - as long as they run.
Now excuse me while I go and “free-base” a spoon full of 10W-30.

Right now I believe both party leaders here in the US should be concerned about Russia’s actions in the former client state of Georgia. Becouse if Migs were to hit that pipeline oil barrel prices could esculate. I expected that to happen this morning but thus far the price is dropping.
The good news the House Republicans have been getting a lot attention in the darken house. Tourists have been dropping by and checking out the action. While Nancy Pelosi is being greeted by protestors everywhere and some Blue States editorials are beginning to have editorals criticiing her. The people are showing thier anger and they’re not goign to stop.

For Jim…
We have just witnessed a drop of over $25/bbl due to the fact that GWB simply put the offshore issue back on the table from a Federal standpoint. It has psychologically affected the market’s concept of future prices.
The price of crude is all about where the price will be in the future. If we don’t drill now, then the price will definitely be MUCH higher in the future. If we drill now it will only be higher (as opposed to MUCH higher).
I kinda like just higher.
Where do these people that do not want to drill now get the idea that “not drilling” is going to lower the price? Drill now, drill here, save money.

Jim with offshore drilling everyone and every retail gas market large small benefit. U keep oil barrel prices low your stock prices remain high despite this weird economy downturn we’re in. Also with domestic drilling will boost our own reserves, and we wouldn’s be so dependent on anyone’s foriegn
The real boost I believe is new jobs. And new jobs in the end would boost the ecomony and get some unemployed off the unemployment rolls. Unfornately Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her own ant-drill zealotry is hurting her own state with her posisiton and the public winds are blowing more against her and her cronies everyday. For cities like San Fransiciso,Los Angeles and New York City to have higher prices is grossly unfair to them too becouse of a failed liberal agenda. Now a failed radical evenorimentalist agenda as well. For conservative and liberal, have set aside differences in public polls to put the country first.
