What to Expect From Your TV Soon

This morning on Money for Breakfast I sat down with Glenn Britt, Time Warner Cable's CEO to discuss increased competition in the New York market with Verizon, triple play, the future of television viewing and why they invested in the Clearwire venture with Comcast, Google and Intel. After the segment ended, he told me that he will demand VOD (Video on Demand) at the same time that network and ... read more

Let's End the Blame Game, and Intervene

This morning I got hot under the collar about the decline in the U.S. dollar and the need for the U.S. government to step in and help stabilize the currency. I am now of the opinion that we will see a coordinated currency intervention either before the GB meeting in Japan (July 7th or 8th) or immediately after if the dollar does not rally and oil continues to rise or remain at this level. This ... read more

Intervene Already!

What does it take for policymakers to support the U.S. dollar? Does it have to be a shock like we had on Friday? I don’t know about you, but I’m frustrated, on the verge of angry. I feel, and perhaps I’m wrong, like we are being pushed around and I don’t like that. Look at last week. Bernanke, the Fed chairman, said the dollar’s steep decline had led to “worrisome inflation” and ... read more

Why Corn is as High as an Elephant's Eye

This morning on Money for Breakfast I talked to a farmer in Wisconsin who has seen severe damage to his crop due to the enormous flooding. This on a day when the USDA released its crop report emphasizing continued weather disruptions and raised its guidance for wheat prices next year. Randy Roecker of Roecker's Rolling Acres and a member of the National Dairy Board told me why this year has been ... read more

Investing in Real Estate Overseas

Gary Garrabrant, the CEO and co-founder of Equity International joined me for an exclusive two part interview the other day. If the name is not familiar, look him up. He is Sam Zell's partner and has created a private equity empire that invests in international real estate. The investments that Gary and Sam have made in overseas companies like Homex have given them 34% annualized returns year over ... read more

Oil Outrage

So if you've read my last two blogs you know that oil is on my mind, maybe everyone's mind if you look at the newest AAA price per gallon at a new record $4.02 a gallon this morning. So why aren't we doing anything about it? Should we be drilling in ANWR? Why haven't we done it before? Is it enough or just one part of a bigger plan? How much of what you pay at the pump is tied to oil prices? What ... read more

Are We at Risk of a Global Recession Because of Oil?

Global tension this weekend and a meeting by ministers from the G8 nations and China, India and South Korea, approximately 65% of the world's oil demand all met on Sunday in Japan to address energy stability ahead of the G8 Summit in Japan in July. Did they accomplish anything? Not so according to many of the guests I talked to this morning. The good news though, the global community is talking ... read more

What's Behind Oil's Climb?

This morning I got into work a little earlier just like many of my colleagues to prepare for the worst. On Friday as you very well know by now, the markets took a dive after crude traded up a mind boggling 9% in one day or 13% in 2 days. While many pundits today point to increased tension between Iran and Israel, weakness in the U.S. dollar due in some measure to Jean Claude Trichet's comments, ... read more

On Set With a Legend

Don King......a LEGEND in the business of boxing for over 40 years, joined me on Money for Breakfast this morning. If you've seen a Don King interview before, you'll know that he is full of life and full of surprises :)!  This morning we talked about his new game "Prizefighter" (which will be released on June 10), the state of heavyweight boxing, and what mixed martial arts (MMA) is doing to ... read more

All Eyes on Big Brown

Tomorrow is the Triple Crown and all eyes are on Big Brown to see if he can do what hasn't been done in 30 years, win the Triple Crown! Hopes are high and the press is loving it. History in the making? Maybe for two reasons. A horse could break a 30 year streak and a horse could fetch a breeding contract that continues to suggest that the real money in horse racing isn't at the track but rather in ... read more
