Fried Over Prices

Summer is here! What a beautiful weekend. This weekend, my husband, boys and I went upstate to visit my mom. She has a house in Rhinebeck, New York. It's a little town on the Hudson River. We've been going there for years. Still feels like a throw back. My grandparents used to own a place in Chichester, New York, just north of Woodstock. As a kid we (my thirteen cousins) spent every summer out ... read more

Sex and the 'Recession'

Sex and the City hits the mark!!!! The movie, which got mediocre reviews at best, shocked everyone this weekend by beating Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Frankly, I'm not sure if I am that surprised!!! I live directly across from a movie theater that was showing Sex and the City. The streets were mobbed!! Women were out and dressed up. It was one of the biggest New York ... read more

THREE OVERTIMES...A must win for the Penguins as the Red Wings had the chance to win the Cup at home in Detroit. Well, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!!! A 'Fantasy' Win

Are you a fantasy sports fan? Play fantasy football? Fantasy baseball? Yesterday the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Major League Baseball and its players association to overturn a ruling that gives for-profit fantasy leagues on the Web a free-speech right to use the names of real players without paying a licensing fee. It's a big deal for everyone involved and puts to rest a three year ... read more

Could This Be the End?

As I mentioned in my earlier blog today marks an end to the Democratic primary and caucus process. After 6 months and 61 contests, 31 delegates are up for grabs today in South Dakota and Montana and many believe and can prove that Sen. Barack Obama will now have the margin he needs with the support of the super delegates to win the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. It has ... read more

Getting Up Close With Glenn

Are you a fan of “Fatal Attraction” or “Dangerous Liaisons?” Seen the FX show “Damages” or “The Shield?” This morning we ran an interview that I recently did with Glenn Close while in New Orleans. I have not written about it on the blog as I waited for the interview to run but now that the cats out of the bag I can speak freely. First of all, she is stunning—and so beautiful ... read more

A Glorious Night for Politics

Last night was a glorious night for politics. Senator John McCain delivered his best speech to date using the word “change,” the cornerstone of Senator Barack Obama’s campaign, 33 times. McCain was fierce, talking about Obama’s lack of experience and discretion to be a wartime commander in chief. Senator Barack Obama, in the most anticipated speech of his political career, was eloquent, ... read more

The Retirement Crunch

Yesterday on The Opening Bell (9-10a.m. EST) I interviewed a man whose story was very touching.  His name is Tom Terrill, and he is the oldest lung transplant patient in the U.S. at age 73. I read about him in a piece in the Wall Street Journal called "Tapped Out" on Monday. The premise of the article was how more and more retirees or people nearing retirement are tapping into their nest ... read more

The Great Trade Debate

Heard about the big debate on the Hill? Should we or shouldn't we pass a Colombian free trade agreement? It's a hot topic and one that has the Bush Administration all fired up. This morning I talked to Luis Guillermo Plata, the Colombian trade minister about why this deal makes sense and what his country is doing to combat violence and protect labor.   ... read more

Expedia.com Perseveres Through Weak Economy

Wondering whether Expedia.com is seeing a slowing in business because of all of the negative news on the airlines? Think travel should slow given the weakening economy? Not so, according to Expedia.com President Paul Brown. This morning he joined me on The Opening Bell to discuss the outlook for the company, the weak U.S. dollar, overseas expansion and those rumors about the company being taken ... read more
