Alexis with gas prices and barrel prices of oil rising due to unregulated speculators this worst case scenerio has been on my mind for a while.
I figure with high gas prices the metropolitian areas like New York City,Los Angeles,Houston and New Orleans would absorb the high costs. But what towns with smaller population? Let me lay it out here. I believe the high gas prices which have a ripple effect within the economy. Here’s what happen to a smallere community which could be anywhere in the United States.
That small community shuts down. Everything starts to shut down. Newspwper carriers can’t deliver papers, retail and restraunts loose business big time,small strip malls shut down becouse the consumer can’t get to them. Can’t even go to the grocery store becouse the high prices and greedy one want to get rich. In turn they hurt thier own commmunity. Areas like Vicksburg ms population 25,000 it hasn’t grown has started to feel the effects already. Travelers aren’t stopping here at all to get gas. But I can tell you the gas prices are same here as they are in Clinton but still those who cross the county line are finding cheaper prices in the Jackson Metro area.
Now could small communities just shut down? Yes. Just pay attention in your region for certain signals.

On the gasoline side I would like to see some focus put on non-competive markets like towns the size of the Vicksburg ms. Where Clinton and Jackson Ms have competiton to drive down gasoline prices,why do small town jobbers hurt thier own people? I can sight many examples of Waring Oil LLC which has been running the local show for years now thier nos are being ignored by Kroger who is now putting in gas service pumps. At the sametime Waring Oil which is owned by the Waring family are they shareholder ExxonMobil? By the way they’re thier distrubetors. Just check out the the ExxonMobil site on the Exxon corportate webpage.
In Jackson I read this morning in the Clairon Ledge motorscooters are selling like hotcake now due to high gas prices.
But in the bigger picture why not look at towns like Vicksburg and other non competitive markets that lack real competition. For locals in rural areas are suffering too and don’t have access to mass transit.

Alexis, about 1/3 of what we hear on business news these days is that oil is rising. Why not present the contrary view? Just the contrary proposition not the contrary dogma. Even politicians are saying that our own behavior (OUR demand) is “not working”. They call demand and supply—which is our behavior; we drive; we turn on the air conditioner or heat more than we really need but actually find extra comfortable; we leave our t.v.s on; we leave our p.cs (p.c.?) connected using electricity while we think that all the power is disconnected but is only turned off; the same with our cell-phone chargers; etc.; and the Asians want what we have and are consuming more every day—”not working”. What they really mean is that our behavior is “not working” they way those politicians want it to behave so that the politicians do not get any more phone calls (from us) complaining about (our behavioral) demand. By the way the next time you interview a politico ask him what sort of car he drove to work that day (a limo? an SUV?) and how many SUVs his staff and family drive. Soon enough demand will (probably) drop more than it has begun to do and those data will show with a late delay. That contrary question will likely be a stimulating one. Come to think of it, now that politicians are blowing hot air about the price of oil, about 90% of which is produced outside the U.S. and whose suppliers are not beholden to Washington, we probably have a contrary signal to watch for a sharp break downward in oil’s price. (I am not yet short but likely be at some time.)
[Penultimately if we calculate the compounded rate of growth of Exxon {and before that the Standard Oil Companies} the growth from the original investment to today's market value approximates 13%-14%. If that is "too large" according to politicians should we curb the growth of many companies in Silicon Valley legislatively because they are growing "too fast"?]

I was real pleased with Hillary C’s Ky speech last night. The line I enjoy hearing was to ignore the talking pundits. She intentionally directed that line I believe to NBC and MSNBC because they’re supporting Obama. And the fact is Chris Matthews didn’t look to happy on his show. Of course he tried to explain her speech off. But it didn’t resonate. Just seeing Matthews a little uncomfortable told me her speech raddled him. In the bigger picture to all voters Hillary made a terrific point about the pundits. Hey I listen to their opioins but I don’t let them influence who I’m going to vote for. And that should apply to voters who like both parties.

Hillary should take it all the way to the convention. She is the strongest candidate and I am getting really tired of all the media and the DNC telling her to quit. The media has been so biased it makes me sick. They never vetted Obama and now we are finding out horrible things about his associations with terrorists as well as his pastor. The media has not even gone into the Larry Sinclair situation that is a ticking time bomb. I understand that Puerto Rico did a TV interview with Larry Sinclair. I understand that it will be another blow out for Clinton in Puerto Rico. This is one woman than knows that Hillary has more gonads than another of the candidates. Obama and his global poverty act giving 845 billion dollars to the UN to go to Africa is astounding. Then Obama states that we shouldn’t be driving SUV’s, eat very much and keep our thermostats down because it would be hard to explain to other countries. Most people don’t drive SUV’s and can’t afford their heat to be turned up or to spend a whole lot at the grocery store. The point is–who is he to tell anybody not to have or do this when he is riding around in SUV’s and flying all over the country. What a hipocrit!!!!

Another thing….someone needs to do an expose’ on George Soros and what part he’s playing in this election and why…when I hear his boy talk, it’s all about “global”….not the US….I feel it’s a movement to take the US over from the inside and it’s sure a lot cheaper than what we’re paying for the wars we’re fighting. Have you read anything by Evelyn Pringle in Chicago? She’s written several “parts” of the plan and posted them on the internet….interesting reading…. :winks:

I admire Hillary’s strength and perseverance, she is a model for all the women who just missed that top position to a younger and less experienced male. Women should be out in droves voting for her to break the highest glass ceiling there is. She has been ignored, made fun of, totally sold down the river by her party and the main media but she has held her own through all this and that is why I voted for her. I will not vote for Obama. He has been rude and disrespectful to Hillary and brushed her off from the beginning. So I have NO respect for him.

I used to be a Democrat, but they have gone way far to the left for me…
I will vote for McCain, but I have been rooting for Hillary to win for the Democrats. She has been treated very badly. I am not a racist, but would not vote for Obama because of the many relationships he has had, and the foo Pahs he has made. I am 65 years old, and see that there are a lot of people out there voting with out doing any research or learning what this candidate is all about….

I’d like for someone to explain what has happened to the Democrat party to me…I have never seen such a travesty in my life. I feel this election has been preordained and we’re just going through the motions. Nobody really listens to what the people want anymore…even states that have trounced OB, their SD’s are voting for him. Say what? I almost hate the Obama’s just for the simple fact that they came out of nowhere and have no solid plans for the future but they act like the chosen ones and people treat them that way….yet at the same time when I hear Obama speak I hear GLOBAL not US. And that scares the beejeebers out of me… What say you?
