Back from the Caymans

I'm back!!!! Sorry it took me 24 hours to post my first blog. You know what it's like when you return back to work after being away for a week. A lot happens while you are away, and there is so much to catch up on. The Cayman Islands were great. My boys had a blast! The weather was beautiful. The submarine trip that I started to tell you about was so cool. We did in fact go down over 100 feet! ... read more

Diversions

Nintendo DSs! Do you know what they are? I do now. Didn't until recently. My oldest son is six and everywhere you look kids are popping up with them. On a recent weekend trip to Disney World, when we were stuck in the airport for five hours, my husband bit the bullet and bought one for each of my older sons (against my will). We agreed that they would only be used while traveling in airports or ... read more

Second-Quarter Bargain Hunters

Today is a new day and, despite the news overnight about UBS and Deutsche Bank taking $23B dollars in combined write downs, the stocks are on fire. The financials across the board are on fire today. Lehman’s announcement yesterday to raise as much as $3B dollars in capital in convertible preferred shares was increased to $4B dollars because the deal was so oversubscribed. As much as three times ... read more

Three Interviews You Can't Miss!

This morning after the show, I did three post-tapes. What are post-tapes? They’re interviews that we tape and then run on the show at a later date. All three post-tapes were very cool. I’m not supposed to tell you about them… but I can’t hold myself back. I interviewed the chief business officer for the United States Golf Association [USGA] about growth in the golf business. A study ... read more

At the top of Money for Breakfast this morning, I interviewed three experts (Steve Gelsi from the Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch, Dan Ackerman, senior editor of CNET.com and our own Eric Bolling, a Fox Business contributor), on the competition between Apple's iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry. Later today RIM reports earnings. Yesterday, RIM announced a partnership with XM Satellite to add more ... read more

The Drug Makers Debacle

If you're like me, you heard about the catastrophic pull back in stocks like Merck (MRK) and Schering Plough (SGP) on Monday after a study released by Enhance and reiterated at the American College of Cardiology's conference on Sunday in Chicago suggested Merck's Vytorin and Schering-Plough's Zetia were NO more effective than other medications like statins from Pfizer's (PFE) Lipitor. Keep in mind ... read more

Cash in the Wings

On Tuesday morning I wrote a pretty bullish blog about the market. It was the first day of the second quarter and the overseas banks were reacting very favorably to record writedowns and needs to raise further cash. As a journalist, I have to walk a fine line. I cannot and don't want to pump the market. It is merely my responsibility to state the facts. Some will add to my argument and some will ... read more

Time to Buy a Diesel Car?

What's the deal with diesel? Why are diesel prices so high? Why is that companies like Volkswagen, the dominant player in the U.S. with 800,000 diesel cars sold, are making more investments in clean diesel fuel engines? Take a look at this video. Our correspondent Jeff Flock talks to a local trucker on Route 66 about why they are protesting the rising price of diesel fuel costs. Then we talk ... read more

Cash In on Market Volatility

Market volatile actually means opportunity, according to Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist at Charles Schwab. So how can you cash in during a volatile market? “The thing that investors ought to do is focus on their long-term plan, set up a broad asset allocation that is right for them specific to where they sit on the risk spectrum,” she said. “That’s not a buy and hold and ... read more
